FITNESS AND MISSED PENALTY

Narberth 3 Maesglas 2

Another tough work out for Maesglas where they went down by three goals to two. But make no mistake there were a few positives to come out of the game, one being Daniel Lewis at centre half and his partner in crime Ricky Maskell teaming up well in the heart of the defence. Also Dominic Williams finding his shooting boots, a rasper from 35 yards which gave the home side keeper no chance. Goals from Dominic Williams and Aled Rees, a missed penalty at two each may have swayed the game in the Blues favour but tired legs and tired minds played a part in the last fifteen minutes, which led to the winner, and this is probably the only gripe about the performance. Narberth had 3 games prior to this one so they looked the sharper when the clock ticked down. Bow Street at the weekend will be another tough game.

BLUES SECURE GOOD WIN IN PRE SEASON GAME

Clarbeston Road 2 Maesglas 3

Maesglas travelled to Clarbeston Road for their annual pre season match and came away with a well desreved win. The Blues played some decent football throughout the game and kept a decent tempo. Conditions were pretty good apart from a strong wind which didnt really help either side. The home side scored first after ten minutes or so from a poorly cleared corner but Maesglas bounced back with a well worked goal from left wing Aled Rees. All level at the interval and the Blues had been the better side throughout the opening 45 minutes. Twenty minutes into the second half and a great break and goal from Llifon Howell put the Blues ahead and few minutes later Dazz Kanu Davies added the third. The home side finished the match with a great strike to give them at least a little credit, but the Blues were always in control and should have taken more of the chances. But its about getting sharp at this stage of the year. A good win.

FOXES & AIRMEN FOR THE BLUES

Kicking off the season doesn’t get much tougher than this with both first team and reserves on the travels. The Blues first team travel to Cae Dandre to face the Foxes of Llanboidy who had their best ever season in the top flight last term. The Blues have been past winners when facing the Foxes on their patch in opening games of the season. This is followed by a home game against newly promoted Bargod Rangers who will be looking to prove their worth.

The reserves have two tough away games to begin with; both against first team opposition, Aberporth and Cardigan who will want to bounce back into the top flight after relegation last season.

CHRIS HOPE TOPS THE GOAL SCORING DIVISION 3 TABLES  (Tomos Rogers can take a hike)

AGM at the Hope last night was pretty well attended…
Mark Lewis chairman thanked everybody for the contribution to last season and thanked the sponsors.
Treasurer Roger Davies gave the meeting a breakdown of the finances but was keen to step down from his post, but agreed to stay on for now, and so long as players adhere to paying their fines etc, it’s not his job to go chasing.
Arry, Keeno and Paul were happy to continue with the managers jobs.
Due to the escalating costs of running the club, it was agreed that the players will have to pay a signing on fee of £10.00 to be paid before the first game of the season (end of August) this will hopefully generate enough funds to cover most things required by the club.
Match fees will stay at £2.50 per game.
Fund raising is also important, and will be spoken about in the next meeting.
The away changing rooms need working on to be ready for season ahead, the roof especially.
Pre-season games have more or less been sorted.
Training starts next Monday at 6.15 and signing on forms will be there for players to register, another session on the night after with John Mills, £2.00 to cover his costs as this is his job. No £2.00 no training unfortunately.
No other business

So there we have it, the season finally ends with our end of season presentations. Held at the Hope and Anchor, with club Chairman Mark “Chalky” Lewis as host.

The players of the year awards were always going to be pretty obvious, as were the players’ player, and congratulations to Dazz “Kanu” Davies picking up a double award for both player and players player for the 1st team, and congratulations to both Ricky Wood Holmes picking up player of the year with Dai “Hope” Jones collecting players player for the 2nds. Overall a good night was had by all. A Big thank you to all who helped throughout last season, and the sponsors who are invaluable to the club.

Richard Evans Haulage has kindly offered to sponsor the new first team home kit, so again a huge thank you to Richard and family.
